California Green Meteor Fireball Reported 28FEB2011...

Email From MG Pasadena, CA:
I was in my back garden letting the dogs out walking north on my way back to the house. It was 10:23 PM PST. I saw a bright object falling in the northwest sky. I'd say it was about 320 or 325 degrees, so a bit more to the north than west. I first saw it appear at approx 65 or 70 degrees above the horizon, going almost straight down except a little to the left from my standpoint and disappear 20 to 30 degrees above the horizon. It was less bright than the other one I reported last Tuesday/Wednesday. But I think it just looked a bit smaller. It was traveling faster, more like shooting stars I've seen in the fast but it was brighter than those plus had a green glow though not as much as the one I saw last week. My zip is (code on file) . If you need my exact coordinates or you have any questions, pls let me know.
Thank You MG... Great Report!

Update To 23FEB2011 NE US, SE Canada Fireball...

***EVENT UPDATE***
Northeast U.S.- Southeast Canada Green Fireball 23FEB2011

From Dr. Bill Cooke-NASA MSFC Huntsville AL 24FEB2011...
After quite a bit of work, the Meteor Physics group at the University of Western Ontario did manage to find video of this event on 2 of their all-sky cameras (ones located at McMaster and Elginfield). It was at extreme range (~300 km) and very close to the horizon, making trajectory determination difficult, but they were able to establish the following:
Time: 2011 Feb 23 10:14:44 UT
Speed: ~30 km/s
Begin point: 41.9537 N, 78.1265 W, height = 84.328 km
End point:  41.9112 N, 76.6969 W, height = 49.339 km (this when UWO cameras cut off, meteor extended farther to the east, but was not visible)
No radar or infrasound signature was detected. Because of the high speed, it is highly doubtful if this event produced meteorites.
I am attaching a couple of maps showing the trajectory and a video from the McMaster camera.
Hope this is of help.
Regards, Bill Cooke NASA Meteoroid Environment Office

Note: fireball can be seen in lower left quadrant near structure

Reanna In Winchester, CA...I saw this awesome teal/blue light when I was facing southwest in winchester/french valley CA. The size was larger & color/brightness was more intense than ANY other sky activity I've seen. it went from left To right in an arched downward pattern.  What I Saw lasted 3 seconds & traveled  through what I'd consider lowEr 45-35% of sky circumference. Please contact if further details/ explanation is needed.

It went over the road I was driving (Rt 841 & School Hse Rd in Landenberg, PA). I lost sight of it, because of a hill and trees. I am very curious if anyone else saw it. It was almost unreal - it was a big blue illuminated ball headed for the ground at an angle. I can't get it out of my mind - what a wonderful way to start off the day!!

From Anonymous: I saw this too. I was out walking my dogs...it was closer to midnight, a little past, actually. I'm in Tustin, and it appeared very very bright and very close to where I was. It was a bright, straight-downward-streaking flash that appeared to have a small piece break off (equally bright), and then it disappeared. It only lasted about a second, and to me it seemed like God was shooting a Roman candle at me. Fortunately, he missed.  We are glad he did! Thank you.

Meteor News...Bright Green Southern California Fireball Seen ~11:00pm PST 22FEB2011....

From MG In California...
I saw a bright flare-like thing in the sky tonight. I'm sorry I can't remember the time exactly but it was close to 11pm PST Feb 22 or possibly later (ie 12am PST). At the time I thought it was someone who'd shot some kind of flare although I thought that was odd. I was taking the garbage to the curb. When I turned to go back to the house is when I saw this. I was facing South in Pasadena on East Claremont St. It was slightly to the left but just 15 or 20 degrees left of what we consider South here.   It was flare or firework like. Falling. Not as swift, fast, smooth as a typical shooting star. Bright. Green on the light side. It appeared maybe about 15 to 25 degrees up and vanished in 1 second maybe just above the horizon. I doubt it was a flare. If I can figure out the time better as I think about it some more, I'll let u know.

I just received the Nasa link to this site today, Mar. 1, and started navigating through it and discovered mention of the sighting I had made on the way home from Taos, N.M. I was North bound on I25 just north of Pueblo, Co. and saw it to the NE heading somewhat eastward appearing in the top middle of my windshield and heading to the right and down in a manner where I would have thought it could have landed in eastern colorado or points further east, not being real familiar with predicting this kind of thing. It was green to greenish -blue fairly slow and breaking up a little before fading out. It was still twilight out as the sun had set maybe 10 mins. prior to seeing it. I was going to check radio stations or newspapers the next day, but the daily grind of having to work and dealing with the trivialities of life put it all out of mind; until the NASA e-mail notice of today. Thank you whoever put all this together as it was kind of exciting finding all this info regarding what I had seen.

Feb 23 2011, 5:44 AM rangerman (guest): I was on the paragliding launch pad in North Boulder. I saw the whole event. The meteor came from the North West burning bright red/orange and broke into three pieces. It made a sizzle sound and seemed so close. I had the perfect view from the ridge above North Boulder anyone else see it?
E-mail From Greg:
I also saw the Green fireball. It looked like a firework. I live in S.E. Denver. I saw it around 5:50 pm MTS. It made it very cool because just 2 minutes earlier I was holding a meteorite from my collection.
E-mail From Dave M:
Right about 5:50 PM MST I was travelling east on Singing Hills Road in western Elbert County. I caught a glimpse of it as it essentially passed me and I looked over just in time to see it burn out. I was pretty low to the northern horizon which gave the impression that it was very close to me. I guess if it was NE of Longmont then it wasn't as close to me as it appeared. It appeared to break into 2 or 3 pieces before it flamed out. It definitely had a trail and appeared similar to those fireworks that are shot up that have a bright light followed by a trail of light. It was pretty cool but I wish I'd have seen it longer. From my vantage point, it flamed out to the Northeast of where I was. I was almost to Elbert County Rd 13 when I saw it to the north.
Hope this helps. Would be curious to know what is determined about this event. I called it in to 9 News. Thanks.

Guest573 (guest): I too saw the meteor. I was driving east on Singing Hills almost to Elbert County Rd 13. Caught a glimpse of it to the north just before it burned out. Looked very close, but if it was Northeast of Longmont, it wasn't as close as it appeared. I too thought it was a firework, but then thought no, it couldn't have been. This was at about 5:50 PM and the object appeared to be going west to east. It appeared to break into at least 2, maybe 3 pieces just before it burned out

Around 5:45 - 5:50 p.m. tuesday eve (2/22/2011) in Longmont, CO, I was looking Northeast and thought I was seeing a firework launched from across the street behind me - from west. It was green, and looked like a street light (with a tail). I didn't realize what I had seen until I was driving home and heard the radio DJ comment about listener's sightings. Very cool.

Hello, I saw the green meteor in Black Forest, Colorado. I was heading east on Swan Rd at 5:50 p.m. Feb. 22, 2011, when the green beauty caught my eye to the north. It look extremely close as it appeared to head ENE just above the tree tops north of Swan Rd. I saw the black train which disappeared after the meteor apparently burned out at about 10 or 15 degrees (I am a civil engineer, but I am new at this degrees thing in the sky- so, at about a fist or so from the horizon). I actually drove off in that direction thinking I may find it laying in pit in a gravel road somewhere. I know distance in these events can be deceiving, but it appeared very close, the color very sharp and clear. No noise, no explosion. The green light simply went out.
Good luck and how exciting!

Guest775 (guest): Today at 5:50 MST, just west of Power's Blvd and Briargate Pkwy in Colorado Springs, CO I witnessed a bright green fireball to the East. At first I thought it might have been a plane due to the green coloration, however the shots of red and orange coming off sporadically lead me to believe this was a meteor

Guest846 (guest): This evening Feb. 22, 2011,at 5:50 P.M. I saw a green meteor which appeared to be just above treeline North of Swan Rd in Black Forest heading ENE. A black trail of smoke was visible just before it burned out. Looked very close, though I realize distance can be deceiving. Quite a sight!

I saw two large what now seem to be meteors in the sky as i faced west in Toronto last night.  Two separate occasions only minutes apart. It must have been in between 1130 and 12 at night. The first one was so large and bright that i thought it was a helicopter and then is saw it moving directly downwards with a large plume following behind it  I then assumed that it was either a flare shot nearby or a helicopter going down in the distance. Out of concern i started to communicate what i saw when i saw another similar bright object in the sky just minutes later. At that point i assumed someone had shot a flare gun in the near distance. Incredible!
I tried to take a video but couldn't get the flash turned off in time to capture any useable image. hope that helps in some way

Bright Morning Light East Of Ontario Canada 20Feb2011 Likely Venus...

Brampton, Ontario arrived from google.ca on "elp allsky:" by searching for 6am bright light in eastern sky.
04:36:45 -- 9 hours 32 mins ago

***ELPALLSKY Readers... We are getting many inquiries about a bright light in the morning sky toward the eastern horizon. This is likely the planet Venus currently shining at a magnitude -4 which makes it the brightest object in the sky other than our moon. The telltale sign that what you are seeing is in fact Venus is simple...it doesn't move. If you observe movement but slower with a more steady brightness than you would expect for a meteor, what you are seeing is likely a pass of the International Space Station (ISS), usually lasting much longer than a meteor. If you see a bright object which moves quickly across a portion of the sky, especially if it exhibits flashes (beginning, middle or end of flight), PLEASE REPORT IT TO ELPALLSKY by either e-mail wxtx01@gmail.com, or by logging into the Chat Window as "guest" and leaving a description with the time, your location and what you saw. Thank you for visiting ELPALLSKY! Please bookmark for quick future reference.***

Bright Light Over Early Evening Texas Skies Not A Meteor... 19FEB2011...

by: ELPALLSKY 19 FEB2011
Witnesses reporting in to ELPALLSKY of a bright light moving across Texas skies this evening likely DID NOT see a meteor/fireball, but an unusually bright pass of the ISS (International Space Station). With days getting longer now, the Station stays in sunlight longer than during winter when even bright illuminated ISS passes are relatively brief compared to their summer counterpart passes. Here are a couple inquiries to ELPALLSKY, a log of tonight's pass across Houston TX, and an ELPALLSKY camera capture of an ISS pass over El Paso TX last night 18FEB2011 at 6:56 pm MST. Enjoy!

From ELPALLSKY Chat...
Feb 19 2011, 7:48 PM Guest579 (guest): Hello. Do know if any meteor or satellite was visible over north houston today around 630 pm. It was very bright light traveling northeast and then it just fizzled out. It was large and not like any meteor I have ever seen. It was not blinking like an aircraft.

Los Angeles, California arrived from google.com on "Latest Worldwide Meteor/Meteorite News" by searching for sky lit up green "february 18, 2011".
15:59:44 -- 23 minutes ago
Email From Kathy In Cal... Hi, I happened across your website this morning,  and yes I did see the entire sky south of me light up a neon green. It was approximately 10:30pm. I did do a search when I got home from work around 11pm on google, but couldn't find anything.
Email From Pedro C... My brother at around 11pm or 12 am saw this meteor as it approached and kept staring at it since all he saw in the distant sky was a blueish white ball. Then as it came above him the bright light illuminated the whole night sky and for about 1- 2 seconds, the night was now day. As quick as it had came it left and he couldn't believe his eyes. If you want to know more just e- mail me at (contact email archived). By the way, my family has decided to call it Hugo's Meteor in honor of him being the only one who saw it approaching from the distance. From ELPALLSKY...Congratulations Hugo!

ANOTHER?...YES! ANOTHER Fireball Bolide Italia 18FEB2011...

by: ELPALLSKY 18FEB2011
The Italians are certainly being shown great favor by the Meteor Gods...
The Italian Meteor and TLE Network has captured spectacular video of yet another bright fiery bolide descending through Italy's little piece of the atmosphere. This event (pictured below) lit up the sky over Ferrara at 18:23:42 UTC 18FEB2011. This is the IMTN's fourth bolide capture in a 10 day period...one each on the 8th, 10th, 12th, and now today the 18th. By Far, the highlight of this recent activity came at 23:24 UTC on the 8th (article)...http://elpasoallsky.blogspot.com/2011/02/major-breaking-meteor-newssuperbolide.html

NY-PA-NJ-MD Meteor Fireball Indicated by Internet Traffic 18FEB2011...Or More Thunderstorms?

The Following are inquiries to ELPALLSKY which suggest a significant meteor event...
From Jeanne J. via Email...My husband and I were driving north on Rt 55 in Cumberland/Gloucester Friday(Feb. 18, 2011) evening at about 10:00 PM when we saw a large, very bright  object falling from east to north.  It was very exciting.
Jeanne JablonskiFrom Stacey C. via Email... I did see this. I thought I was crazy at first and no one believed me for days, but I live in East Windsor, NJ and I was leaving our Shop Rite and I was at the stop light and that was when I saw this huge ball of fire with a trail of fire behind it go down behind the trees. It scared me because it looked like it was heading towards my kids school. I had no idea what I had just seen. I came home to tell my husband who said it sounded like a meteor, but he looked at me like I was crazy...LOL. then when I told everyone at the bus stop they laughed at me. So I forgot about it until Thursday when one of the girls from the bus stop sent me an e-mail telling me I was right, with an attachment about the meteor.
Thanks for your time and so cool to have seen such a thing! Stacy C.
From Janet A. via email...Saw what looked like a fireball in NW sky while driving through central PA with my family on Friday, ( Looked like a white ball falling from sky. It was beautiful.) Feb 18, sometime after 10:00PM.

From Laura In PA...Thought I saw a meteor in southwest sky (bigger than the occasional "shooting stars" we usually see)at about 10:45pm while driving home, but no one else here (Central PA) seems to have seen it. "Fell" behind the mountain ridge, so...

Email From Bill in CT...There were lots of flashes in the sky last night in general NYC area up through Springfield, MA. There were a few bands of winter thunderstorms that went through around 7pm. The flashes were quite beautiful from where I live in southern Connecticut. I am not saying that were not an meteors. But the storms were unusual for this time of year and sure would explain the flash queries.

From Carol In Baltimore MD...Around 6pm Friday evening, while it was still light out, my friends and I watched 5 or 6 objects with long double stranded fiery tails shoot across the sky and then appear to head straight down to earth. They fell behind the clouds and we didn't see them come out below the clouds.this went on for 10 minutes or so.They seemed to come from a northerly direction and were heading southwesterly. They did not come simultaneously, rather one after another. We were in the Essex neighborhood of Baltimore county, Maryland. What were they?

E-Mails From Chicago IL Witnesses...
10:09 pm MST Jeff Kahn. E-mail's...
I had just turned off Harlem Ave was driving east-bound on Chicago Rd.in Oak park, IL when the fireball caught my eye.  It was looking up at about 75 degrees(from southern horizon) and saw it go straight toward Chicago(due east), but saw it head down, and burn out at about 45 degrees.   I would say that it was about traveling about 15 degrees south of 0 degrees being straight above me. The time was about 9:10 - 9:15 PM on Feb 17, 2011, I think.
11:08 pm MST Patricia Dillman E-mail's...
Was about 9:15pm CST  I live on the 41st floor of a bldg on the corner of Monroe St/Michigan ave.  My view is east southeast over the lake.  I was looking out at the moon shining brightly above Adler Planetarium when I saw a vivid neon green flash over Monroe harbor. From my angle, the meteorite appeared to shoot straight down toward the lake and disappeared in a matter of 2-3 seconds.  Was incredible!

My girlfriend and I were walking westward in a desert road next to Cemex and far east El Paso in the evening of St. Valentine Day when the largest meteor we had ever seen lit the sky on our left side. It was fast, but at a much slower speed and longer duration than the regular falling stars that I had previously seen. The meteor was moving westward. It was a magical evening!

GLOBAL GREEN FIREBALL ALERT Issued By "Worldwide Meteor/Meteorite News", Tokyo Japan

From "Lunarmeteoritehunters" Tokyo,Japan

Issued Tuesday 15FEB2011:

NEOs Fireball Cluster - RATS!
photo credit: Takashi Shinohara, Kyoto University PNAS
NEOs Worldwide Standby for Even More Green Fireballs and Bolides Through end of February 2011* to be updated as available
by LunarMeteorite*Hunter, Tokyo, Japan 15:39 8FEB2011 revised 20:51revised 9FEB201108:15 10FEB2011 23:42
Once again Earth will encounter an increase in meteor activity from passing detected and yet undetected NEOs (Near-Earth Objects) asteroids or their debris.  Originally for February 2011 there were 20 known NEOs with scheduled approaches near Earth.  Since January 1, 2011 there have been at least 28 new discoveries of NEOs to pass near Earth in February; this is an increase of over 100% in number for the month.  There are as of today 48 NEOs discovered for February 2011 and it appears that there may be another 5-10 or more added by the end of the month. Due to the bright Moon for the remainder of the month several NEOs will go undiscovered until they pass, hit the Earth or pass silently by.
This increase in discoveries indicates to me that we will see a marked increase in meteor activity for February.  I also expect that we will have a new meteorite this month.
Have your cameras ready and if possible get outside to watch.  Expect to see worldwide several green meteor fireballs and bolides during, just prior to, and just after 19FEB-23FEB, and until the end of the month.  If more findings come in about other newly found NEOs I will post.  For the most current information see the NASA NEOs site: http://neo.jpl.nasa.gov/ca/
If anyone captures video, a photo or has a sighting please email me at: lunarmeteoritehunter@gmail.com

48* NEOs with scheduled approaches for FEB2011

28* FEB2011 NEOs Discovered JUST in 2011 revised 15FEB2011
