Another California Meteor Fireball Witnessed 28SEP2011

Email From:
Brian F.T.-Willits, CA:
I saw a slow moving (faster than a low flying airplane) bright white fireball at about 9:25 PM 9/28/2011. It was less than 30 degrees above the horizon (tho I was on a hill) larger than a BB but smaller than a pencil eraser. I was facing east and it traveled parallel to the horizon south to north without sound. Just as it passed the tree line to the northeast it was bright enough to illuminate the nearby trees. Waddya think?

Sep 29 2011, 3:22 PM Michael (guest):
spotted a huge fireball facing north-northwest at coordinates:
38.542734, -121.758825‎
+38° 32' 33.84", -121° 45' 31.77"
(Davis, CA at the UC Davis ARC)
at approximately 10:23 PM. The fireball was blue-white, with points in about six or seven directions. It had a bright red tail with a length about 5 times the diameter of the fireball. The fireball was present for about 2 seconds. The diameter was 20-30% the diameter of a full moon from where I was standing.
