Meteor News...Green Meteor/Fireball Activity Expected To Rise Next Several Days...

Worldwide Standby for Green Fireballs and Bolides 7FEB-FEB10 ***updated***

From "Worldwide Meteor/Meteorite News", Tokyo
by LunarMeteorite*Hunter, Tokyo, Japan 3:39pm 8FEB2011
Once again Earth will encounter an increase in meteor activity from passing yet undetected NEOs (Near-Earth Objects) asteroids or their debris.  Originally for February 2011 there were 20 known NEOs with scheduled approaches near Earth.  Since January 1, 2011 there have been at least 22 new discoveries of NEOs to pass near Earth in February; this is an increase of 100% in number for the month.  There are as of today 42 NEOs discovered for February 2011 and it appears that there may be another 10 or more added by the end of the month.
This increase in discoveries indicates to me that we will see a marked increase in meteor activity for February.  I also expect that we will have a new meteorite this month.
Have your cameras ready and if possible get outside to watch.  Expect to see worldwide several green meteor fireballs and bolides during, just prior to, and just after 7FEB-11FEB.  If more findings come in about other newly found NEOs I will post.  For the most current information see the NASA NEOs site: http://neo.jpl.nasa.gov/ca/
If anyone captures video, a photo or has a sighting please email me at: lunarmeteoritehunter@gmail.com

Loud Booms Heard And A Green Meteor Observed From El Paso Texas 9FEB2011 19:24 MST (02:24 UTC)...
by Jim Gamble-ELPALLSKY
At 7:24 pm MST (local) time Wed. 9FEB2011, a loud boom and subsequent rumble were heard as I stepped outside from my home in east El Paso, TX. The booms seemed to emanate from the north-northeast. Within 30 seconds, I observed a small green meteor of approximately -1 magnitude and lasting 1 to 2 seconds through Canis Major to my south-southeast. I am looking at the possibility that a larger meteor event may have occured just prior to the booms, possibly to my east or northeast. While it is possible that the booms and meteor passage were coincidental, and that the booms may not be meteor related, I nonetheless am asking anyone in the vicinity who may have heard them to post to this site. I will continue to investigate and post updates. Thank you.
